Portfolio of creative workAngel coffee table
This stunning coffee table was made using marquetry, the features include individualised butterflies flying around an angel that were made with various types of timber veneers. Hugh particularly loves working with timber veneers because of the greater ability to create more artistic looking wooden features due to the easier way they can be cut as opposed to solid timber. Blue gum burl tableThis blue gum burl is stunning in its own right and combined with the tree trunk shaped legs, also made out of blue gum wood, makes this into a wonderfully creative table for any room of the house. Leaf shaped cheese board
Continuing with creative woodworking, this cheese board was made using the end grains of various of Australian hardwoods, it is in a shape of a leaf with a feature of a butterfly. Marquetry was again used, for the butterfly, but with thicker slices of solid timber this time. Display cabinetThis unique display cabinet has class of it's own with a sleek design for the overall constuction. The many different angles required for it to be made greatly enhanced Hugh's woodworking skills at the same time. The little raven also gives it a gothic appeal. Banksia cheese boardThe feature for this gorgeous cheese board was only realised after experimental assembling of the pieces of wood. The natural beauty of the end grain allows for the wonderful appearance of a banksia combined with the final shape of the entire board. Electrified moth topWhilst not a woodwork project, Hugh wanted to practice his creative talents through other mediums and this is the result - a top made from scratch complete with a fabric painting of an electrified moth, very cool Hugh thinks! |
